Designs

Image
I've been designing ideas for one of my final collections on Photoshop. I've been experimenting with putting colours in the background. I feel three of these colours work really well with the design. I've used large scale flowers in my designs as the flower painting are very detailed and would look really interesting on a dress or a top. Using black colour for the background in this design has made the design stand out which looks very interesting.

Ports 1961

I find this dress very interesting as the large scale flowers work really well on the dress and I find the white border on the bottom of the dress makes the dress look interesting. The white background also works well with the beautiful flower prints and the colour are very bright. I find the combination of the black and white with bright floral's very eye catching and  interesting. I have also been experimenting with black backgrounds for my patterns.

Roberto Cavalli

Image
While doing my market research I had a look at Roberto Cavalli's dresses which are very eye catching. He uses large scale florals on the dresses which look interesting. I also like how Roberto Cavalli uses black as a background for his designs and the pattern placement has been done really well. For some of  my designs I've also used large scale flowers and would like expand this idea as I think it would work well with my detailed drawings and paintings.

Sampling

Image
I've got my designs digitally printed on to velvet and silk. I would like to experiment with devore printing on some of my samples to see the different effect it has on silk and velvet. The design looks different on silk as you can see detail but on velvet  the design looks light but has an interesting texture. I've beaded one of my sample's which looks really interesting and the beads have an interesting texture.

Developing design ideas on photoshop....

I've been working on developing ideas towards one of my final collections, I've been experimenting with scale and colour. I used large scale floral's  which work well as you can see the detail and it stand out but the designs which have small scale flowers they lose the quality and detaile. For one of my designs I've uses geometrics and lines and I think that looks very interesting. I would like to digitally print some of my designs and embellish on top. I would like to print on different types of fabric's to see what the design looks like.   I've applied my design on to a dress, I've used large scale floral's on some parts of the dress and small flowers' on some parts. I think large florals look more interesting as you can see the detail and I would like to experiment with large scale floral's more. The colours also work well together.

While doing research I came across floral trend forecast of 2015 on WGSN. These fabric's are digitally printed swatches which show a lot of details and look very interesting. The colours are also very vibrant and eye-catching. The composition of patterns is also laid out well .

While looking through the print and pattern book I came across this design, I really like the pattern structure and it's interesting how some of the motifs overlapping each other,

Expermenting...

Image
I've been experimenting with tissue paper, water colour pencil, water colour paints and a black fine liner. I've done this painting by looking one of the photographs which I've taken of flowers. I've used the black fine liner to show the detail's of the flowers which I think looks really interesting. I would be doing more drawing in the similar style as I think this drawing style has worked well and the colours also work well together. I have done a wash of water colour in the background and then have work on top it by doing detailed drawings. Markus Lupfer Spring/summer 2014           I've photocopied my drawing and have done a patchwork with them I've painted some squares in block colours so that the work stands out.

Robert Kushner

Image
I've research the work of Robert Kushner. He uses interesting collaged backgrounds and draws floral's on top. Robert Kushner has illustrative style in his art work and uses different thickness of lines which I find really interesting.   I've also experimented with mixed media and I've collaged news paper in the background to give an interesting effect. I've used ink, fine liner and acrylic paint.

Mark Makings..

Image
I've experimented with line and different mark makings. I've used a black fine liner to draw these floral's and have tried to capture the details and the mark makings of the floral's.   Craig Fellows While doing research for contemporary designer's I came across Craig Fellows. His work is very detailed and he also uses a lot of mark makings in his drawings which I found related to my drawings. Researching Craig Fellows was very inspirational. Craig Fellows is a textile print designer, he uses colour and illustrations is his work. Craig Fellows combines traditional, contemporary and digital printing techniques in his work which has an interesting feel. Craig fellows applies his designs on both fashion and interior based products.

Review/ Paintings and drawings

Image
I had a review with my tutors and they've given me some ideas on how I can take my drawings and paintings forward in to design. These are some of my painting and drawings which would work well together as a collection but I feel that I need to experiment with mixing colours and also scan these design sheets so that I can start experimenting on Photoshop. I have done some black and white floral drawing by experimenting with black fine liner and watercolour paint. I find Matthew Williamson spring/summer 2014 collection very inspiring as he also uses black and white flowers in his garments. I have done these paintings of irises which I think look very interesting and I would also like to do some more painting in the similar style but this time I would go to a florists and buy an iris and do some observational drawing from that. Margaret Stones was an artist who did botanical drawing of flower using watercolour paint, I find the style of her painting very interesting and th

These are historical fabric which I've taken pictures of when I visited the museum of science and industry and seen their textile archives.I find the drawing style interesting and mark making has an interesting texture.     I've done this painting by experimenting with watercolour paints and doing different mark making to capture the detail. I have used historical textiles as an inspiration which I feel has been successful.

Museum of Science and industry

Image
I visited the museum of science and industry to see their textile archives. It was interesting seeing textile fabric sample books from the years 1860, 1868 1923 and 1928. I find these historical textile fabrics interesting as the style of painting is very inspirational.

Matthew Williamson

Image
I've researched Matthew Williamson's spring/summer 2014 collection. Matthew Williamson has digitally printed on to chiffon and silk fabrics. There's hand drawn floral's in his this collection. I find the combination of the black and white works really well together and looks interesting. I would also like to experiment with black and white in my work by using black and grey watercolour paints, inks and a black fine liner.

Tutorial

I had a tutorial with Donna yesterday which I found useful as I talked through my ideas and the stage am at. Action plan: Experiment with photographic montage. Experiment with patchwork in different ways. Research designer who use patchwork. Do 2 more design sheets with black and white floral's. Paint background with stripes. Experiment with different media and techniques. Try screen printing. I need to start scanning my work in to Photoshop and experiment with different techniques on Photoshop.

Primary Research

Image
I've visited this floral shop in Bolton as I felt I needed more research before I start to paint and draw. I've taken some interesting pictures of different types of flowers and I think it would help me to get started with my drawings and painting work.

Starting point

Image
I've taken pictures of flowers and then I have started to experiment with fine line and watercolour paints. Drawings in my sketchbook.

Mood wall

Image
I've put together a mood for my theme which would help me get started with my module and will also be inspirational for me.

Study Visit to Victoria and Albert Museum

Image
I  visited the Victoria and Albert Museum and seen some colourful stain glass art which I found really inspiring as the colours really catched my eyes. I would like to combine some of these colours to my colour pallet because I think it would work well with my floral theme for spring summer.
